4th Tap Brewing Co-op Files Bankruptcy

This article has been updated to note that the brewery is permanently closed.

On July 20, 4th Tap Brewing Cooperative filed for chapter 7 bankruptcy after several difficult years operating during a pandemic while facing rising rent costs. Unlike chapter 11, which prompts internal restructuring, chapter 7 indicates a liquidation of assets.

The brewery was established in 2015 and has been a fixture in the North Austin beer scene with out-of-the-box events like Party World Rasslin‘, held in a wrestling ring in the back of the brewery, Friday the 13th themed events complete with beer in a blood bag, and many more. In 2020, 4th Tap Brewing Co-op released Stay Gold, a collaboration with 2020 Grammy Nominated Black Pumas, a project co-founder John Stecker was extremely proud of. When Q2 Stadium was announced, Stecker quickly jumped at the chance to get involved, “We are very excited and supportive of the new stadium and the Austin FC…Ultimately, we were soccer fans before we opened a brewery, and we believe it is past time for Austin to have a major league sports team.”

As of publication, there are no indications the brewery will relocate.
