Texas had another stellar showing at the Great American Beer Festival (GABF) this year bringing home a total of 16 awards: eight gold, three silver, and five bronze medals. A stand-out this year was the double gold win by Altstadt Brewing Company of Fredricksburg, Texas for their Altstadt Kolsch (German-Style Koelsch) and Altstadt Lager (Munich-style Helles).

GABF is one of the toughest and beer competitions, representing over nine thousand entries from breweries across all fifty states. This is the first year Altstadt has entered the competition, so bringing home two gold medals was a well-deserved surprise.

“A GABF gold medal is the most prestigious and difficult award you can win in brewing. Winningthese medals in such competitive categories  just shows what an amazing job our team is doing, especially in an environment where beer overall is better than it’s ever been.” Head Brewer of Altstadt Brewery, Craig Rowan.

Altstadt’s Kolsch is golden in color, with a clean, refreshing, crisp flavor that finishes with a subtle hop aroma. Altstadt’s Lager is also golden with full-flavored malt sweetness and a clean finish. Both are brewed with 100% German malts, hops, and yeast.
