As the state’s largest beer event focused exclusively on Texas-brewed craft beer, the Texas Craft Brewers Festival relies on volunteers to run the annual event. “Each year, our awesome, enthusiastic volunteers help to pull off the ultimate celebration of small and independent Texas craft brewers–all while supporting the non-profit Texas Craft Brewers Guild,” says Caroline Wallace, Executive Director of the Guild, “we’re so immensely grateful for that support which allows us to host the festival–especially this year after the challenges and disappointments of the last year and a half. Our volunteers are a big part of what makes the Texas craft beer community so amazing.”

Volunteer Perks

As a volunteer, you get free entry into the festival that includes a tasting package after your shift has ended, along with a festival volunteer T-shirt printed by Kong Screenprinting. Volunteers also get to attend the Volunteer Training Event held at Austin Beerworks on September, 25 which includes two free beer tokens. After the festival, volunteers are invited to St. Elmo Brewing Co. for an after-party which includes two free beer tokens.

Volunteer shifts

Volunteer shifts include pouring beer samples at the festival as a Beer Server at an assigned brewery tent. In order to be a Beer Server, you will need to have a TABC Seller/Server certification.

Need to obtain or update your two-year certification? Get a $2 discount on your TABC certification here (affiliate link).

General volunteers assist with check-in, merchandise, ice distribution, and other tasks to help the festival run smoothly. TABC certification is not required for this position.

What Past Volunteers Have to Say

“It’s my favorite event of the year! Even though I’m a sweaty  and exhausted mess after a day of volunteering, I wouldn’t miss it for the world,” says Karen Brown, a festival volunteer since 2015 and Beer Captain for the last four years, “meeting new people, learning about the different beers directly from the brewers, and making people happy by pouring beer are the major perks of volunteering.”

“Volunteering at TCBF is such a rewarding experience! Knowing you’re a part of celebrating such a fantastic beer community is so worth the sweat and sunburns,” says Melanie Ross, two-time festival volunteer, “that beer at the end of the day is so earned and cheersing with the friends you’ve made that day (and could possibly become lifelong pals) at the volunteer party never tasted so fresh. This year it’s at Southern Heights and I am stoked to drink a delicious IPA with amazing people! Sign up to volunteer! I can’t wait to cheers YOU at the volunteer party!”

“Volunteering at the festival is a fun and positive experience. I love seeing beer geeks I’ve worked with behind the bar and customers of mine from the past.” says Candace Garcia, Beertender at Austin Beerworks and festival volunteer since 2018,  “I enjoy the chance to meet new folks in the beer community. The beer community here in Austin truly is a family.”
