Growler USA to close February 11, 2022

Growler USA, located at 609 W 29th St, is set to close on February 11, 2022, after six years of operation. They are offering 25% off draft beer this week and 50% next week. More information can be found on their social media accounts.  You can see their Facebook post below.

Growler USA Austin – Craft Beer Bar

Growler USA opened it’s doors near UT Campus at the end of February 2016, bringing a full line up of carefully selected craft beer. I spoke with Assistant General Manager, Corey Mathews for more information about the new spot.

We first started off by creating a list of the local breweries we wanted to include in our initial tap list.  While we tried to include everyone, there were a couple who didn’t make the first cut.  Hopefully as we start our rotation, we will be able to include more local breweries.  After deciding the breweries, it was then a matter of choosing the styles.  It was very important to start with a lineup that included something for every taste.  After that, styles will follow more with the seasons.  Lighter in the summer, darker in the winter, etc.  Also, on the selection of national craft breweries that we carry, we try and focus on having the harder to find, small batch brews that you don’t find everywhere else. We also have draught wine, ciders, hard and soft root beers and kombucha on tap.

While there are other pubs that have as many taps as us, we have the most local selections.  We are the only pub in town, that I know of, who carries exclusively American craft breweries.  There are no imports or macro beers on our wall, and there never will be.  We are also one of the only places with this many taps that offer on-premise consumption, as well as offering growlers to go. We also pride our selves in our True to the Brew ™ program that includes a staff of Cicerone^® Certified Beer Servers.

We are in the process of finalizing our happy hour and weekly specials.  These will include a sour day, hoppy day, and even 50% off growler fills.  In addition, we will soon be starting our tap takeover program.  The tap takeovers will focus on local breweries, and will run from Monday to Sunday, with Friday being our Meet the Brewer, Keep the Pint, Cask night.

My personal go-to right now is Hops & Grain Mosaic.  However, truth be told, the GM and I aren’t opposed to a Lone Star or PBR on occasion when grilling at home.
