Guns & Oil Beer, a Brewery based out of Austin, Texas, has signed a long-term deal to build a flagship brewery in downtown Austin. A space previously occupied by Cothron Safe & Locks at 807 E 4th St.
“We have been searching for a flagship location in our hometown for about 18 months, so this has been a long time coming. I’ve had my eye on this building for a couple of years now, and I can’t imagine a better spot for us to make our mark on Austin.,” said Cary Prewitt, founder and chief gun slinger, Guns & Oil. The brewery launched in August 2013 in Austin, and is currently being brewed and bottled in New Mexico.
Guns & Oil focuses on approachable, premium quality beer that will hold its own in the high end craft beer category, and appeal to consumers who primarily drink major brand beer.
Their flagship brew is Maverick Lager, an American style lager.The beer is an homage to traditional American style beer, with more flavor than what mainstream beers offers today.
The location was found by Chris Horne from Stratford Property Group, a co-owner of Benji’s Cantina, and Winflo; and Will Steakley of DEN Property Group. Prewitt jumped on the chance to lock down the building when it became available, mystified at his luck in finding a space that in fit their needs perfectly. Just east of I-35, 40 parking spaces, three blocks from the Austin Convention Center, and great signage opportunities.
Prewitt has hired Stephen Oliver of OPA Design Studio as an architect, and Lauren Mabry of Hunter Mabry designs for interior design. “Stephen has extensive expertise inworking on breweries in town, and we’re excited to have someone experienced in our market to give us confidence that our processes will be executed efficiently, allowing for the earliest open date possible. said Prewitt.
Guns & Oil Beer recently launched in the Midland and Odessa markets after signing a deal with Glazers Distributing. Their beer is also available in the Austin and Houston areas.
Prewitt concluded, “we are looking forward to being a major part of the Austin experience, and can’t wait to drink a beer or three in the tap room with the people who have helped us get to where we are today.”
Guns & Oil hopes to have the brewery and tap room open for tours and pints in May 2015.
