A lot of beers showed up this week. I figure I should get some of the standard questions out of the way that I always seem to be asked when Jester King shows up.

Yes, they have sold this at the brewery some time back. No, they do not need label approval to sell beer to go from a brewpub. They only need label approval if it is going into distribution. No, this does not mean we will see “Shatrial” on shelves at WhichCraft next month. Why would they get label approval then? They get it to be able to have beer dinners, go to festivals and serve it, or just to have approval for whatever comes up. You can thank wonderful laws that we have in this state that make these things happen. On that note, feel free to support groups that fight the laws each session. Maybe if there weren’t AB-InBev/MillerCoors distributors funneling money into lobbyists that cause these laws to never change, I would not have to do these approvals each week.

Ok, now that I got that out of the way, I am going to go back right into it. Pinthouse Pizza. Yes, they are getting label approvals. Why? Because the laws make it so that if they brew one beer at one brewpub, they have to get a label approval to sell it at the other brewpub. And go through a distributor to get it to that brewpub. I am sure that makes logical sense to anyone reading this. I do not think I need to go into another thing about how stupid some of these laws are.

That is probably enough going on about how the current laws are quite crappy for local breweries. There are some good things on here, though, like Great Divide’s Barrel Aged Yeti and Ballast Point’s Peppermint Victory at Sea.
