Foreclosure Leads to New Ownership for Texas Beer Co.
Located at 1331 W 2nd St, Taylor, TX 76574
Update: 9/7/2025
Texas Beer Co. will continue to operate and be sold under the same name, only the ownership is changing. Continue to support TBC by coming out to their annual OkTaylorfest on September 20.
According to the Austin Business Journal, Texas Beer Company will continue operating under new ownership after defaulting on more than $1.4 million in loans. The Journal obtained a letter to investors, sent on September 5, notifying them that creditors determined the company could not repay its debt and will foreclose on its assets, including brewing equipment and intellectual property.
Texas Beer Company opened in 2015 in Taylor, Texas with a lively taproom on the downtown square. Prior to the pandemic, the brewery was experiencing rapid growth and enjoyed broad distribution across Central Texas. But the pandemic derailed that trajectory, with revenue losses, inflation, and shifting consumer habits compounding financial struggles. The brewery closed its downtown Taylor taproom in 2022 and relied on loans to stay afloat.
From the article Gins said, “I think that the ramifications of the global pandemic are reverberating throughout lots of industries still. I look back on the trajectory we were on before that started, and then what happened after that — it’s just the huge stumble that happened as a result of the pandemic just has been nearly impossible, and now seemingly impossible, for us to recover from it.”
Operations will carry on in the current location under real estate developer Perry Lorenz and Caitlin Olle under the same name. Co-founder JD Gins confirmed the transition, but stated the foreclosure timeline has not been determined. Gins also stated there are no plans to layoff staff at this time.
