A local grassroots volunteer network has been helping thousands of people get their COVID-19 vaccine appointments. Kendra’s COVID Coaches originated in Bee Cave when Kendra Wright started helping friends and family get appointments and quickly grew into a larger undertaking. Per a recent story on KUT, Wright stated, “I asked a few friends if they wanted me to help them get vaccinated. And I helped a few, and then a few more.” Now the group has an army of volunteers working for free to help the public get a vaccine appointment.
Recently, the group has been busy organizing various pop-up vaccine clinics around town and having fun with them. South by South Vax, held April 19th, featured live music at The Pershing in East Austin as a drive-up or walk-up clinic that helped over 350 neighbors get the vaccine, with or without an appointment. Next on their list is to partner with local breweries for walk-up clinics, with the goal of making the vaccine accessible to as many people as possible. The first collaborative brewery event will be held at 4th Tap Brewing Co-op this Sunday. From the Facebook event:
