Czech Lager-Focused Brewery Announces Closure

Tanglefoot Brewing out of Temple, Texas announced on social media that it will be closing down on Saturday, June 22, 2024. Andy Martinec opened the brewery in 2021 as a small speakeasy in the back of his family’s BBQ restaurant where he focused on a beer style he loves that is also rooted in his family’s history, Czech Lagers, “Czech beer culture is everything right about sharing a beverage with one another,” Martinec writes on his site, “It’s about the people, the conversation and the experience of enjoying the perfect pour int he perfect glass.”

With his focus on true-to-style beers brewed with traditional ingredients and techniques, Tanglefoot’s lagers quickly gained a following and was featured on a Beerists podcast episode and listed as one of the Best Beers of the Year.

All hope is not lost as Martinec mentions the beer will remain available, “[I] will be keeping the brand alive in some capacity, just not as a physical taproom in Temple any longer,” per the Instagram post. Keep up with the latest news on Tanglefoot’s YouTube channel.
