The Austin Habitat for Humanity is excited to announce that The House that Beer Built is brewing again in Austin for 2016!
With the support of 29 local breweries and beer-centric businesses, Austin Habitat’s first The House that Beer Built in 2014 was a tremendous success. They came together to celebrate their collaborative brewing environment and shared community commitment by raising more than $60,000 to help a deserving family realize the dream of homeownership. The hard work and efforts of 200+ volunteers (an estimated 1,800 volunteer hours) made it possible for the Huerta family to finally have a place to call home.
Austin Habitat for Humanity’s Affordable Homeownership Program provides zero-profit mortgages to low-income families who earn less than 60% of the Median Family Income (currently $46,080 for a family of four). Each family works hard for this opportunity, contributing 300 hours of “sweat-equity” on the construction of their and other participant’s homes, in addition to completing financial literacy and housing counseling courses.
This year (2016), The House that Beer Built II is collaborating with Austin Local Breweries and Austin Habitat for Humanity. They have come together to celebrate their collaborative brewing environment and shared community commitment to raise $85,000 for raising the walls on a new home for a deserving, Austin family.
The breweries and volunteers will break ground on their House that Beer Built II home in September 2016.
They plan to raise the money through special events, portions of their proceeds, and individual fundraising.
