East Austin Brewery Partners with Soon-to-Emerge South Austin Brewery and Established Hop Merchant to Launch Four-Part Beer Series

If you have visited Lazarus Brewing over the last week, or even their website, you have probably seen something about their Stimulus Package.

As stated on their website, “over the next few weeks, we’re rolling out the Lazarus Stimulus Package: our best beers in a brand new format (12 oz six-packs!). Soon, you’ll be able to take home sixers of Prodigal Pils, 40 Days & 40 Nights IPA, and Walks On Water IPA. In addition, we’ve teamed up with friends to release a brand new set of collaboration beers called Desperate Measures…”

Desperate Measures is a new collaboration series between Lazarus Brewing Co., Meanwhile Brewing Co., and Charles Faram Inc.’s Hop Breeding Program. The first beer in the series, noted as an Austin Style IPA, features a proprietary hop “Harlequin” developed by Charles Faram’s Hop Breeding Program.

From the press release, “Harlequin hops are unique in that they are one of the first English hop varieties to exude the New World flavors and aromas favored in so many of today’s best selling IPAs. The result is an explosion of pineapple, peach, and herbal passionfruit in what might best be called American-English lovechild.”

Desperate Measures #1 was brewed at Lazarus Brewing Co. by brewmaster Matt Couch and senior brewer Rebekah Cryder, along with brewmaster Will Jaquiss and director of brewing operations Nao Ohdera from the soon to open Meanwhile Brewing Co. and can be purchased online starting Friday, May 22, and picked up Lazarus Brewing Co.

“This hop is a perfect example of the innovation and exciting things to come in the industry. While British hop varieties usually have either woodsy and herbal notes or an earthy, stone-fruit character, this hop has a distinct melon and low-key tropical flavor that is both refreshing and new. I’m looking forward to brewing with it again. The beer is a great showcase”, said Jaquiss.

Future Desperate Measures releases include Austin’s newest brewery, Hold Out Brewing Co., and other well-known industry partners. “We are extremely excited to share worldwide collaborations with leaders of the brewing industry for the industry with our patrons”, said Couch.
