Flix Brewhouse Round Rock Expands Brewery – America’s Cinema Brewery
Located in Round Rock, Texas
Exciting things are happening over at Flix Brewhouse in Round Rock. Not only are they continuing their expansion into new markets, they are also updating and expanding the original Round Rock location to add additional brewing capacity that will allow them to get their beer out to the broader Austin market.
Last fall, Marketing Director Greg Johnson, announced their expansion plans as America’s Cinema Brewery to include three new state of the art theaters and brewery expansion from the original 3.5 barrel brewhouse to a new 7 barrel system. Flix opened the additional screens in the fall and decided to postpone the brewery expansion to later in the year. Then the team came to a surprising realization – they were getting close to running out of beer on a regular basis during what is normally the slower seasons. With summer blockbusters looming, Greg’s team did the math and quickly realized that the brewery needed to expand fast,“it is mathematically impossible to meet the projected demand coming into the summer, potentially running out of 2 or 3 core beers”, he said. “And that would go against our one rule – never ever ever run out of beer”.
Luckily equipment was already on order for another location and was immediately re-routed to Round Rock and installed last week to include a new seven barrel brewhouse, a fifteen barrel fermenter and two additional fifteen barrel conditioning tanks, which puts their production brewery output at about 1600 barrels. The new expansion did more than just ensure you get to enjoy Lupulus IPA or Luna Rosa Wit all summer long, it will also allow Flix to get their beers into the Austin market.
According to Greg, Flix recently signed with Austin Specialty Brands to do limited keg distributions around town, “we won’t be a big distribution brewery, it’s not in our DNA; however, we will do tap take overs and other events like the Texas Craft Brewer’s fest”, he said. Due to the summer rush, Flix beers will likely hit a tap takeover near you closer to the fall. However, you are going to have to make the short trip to the brewery to get their limited release beers like the Saison de Walt signature series, developed in honor of Walt Powell, featuring Saison de Walt with Cucumber, lemon, and basil (currently tapped), dry hopped with citrusy Dr. Rudi, Centennial, and Amarillo hops and finally with Watermelon, lime, and salt.
