TABC Label and Brewery Approvals Jan 20 2015

On most weeks, TABC releases Label and Brewery approvals that have been approved for sale in Texas. Every beer that is sold in Texas has to go through this process before you can see it on store shelves. It is a way to see what beer will be coming into the Texas market before it shows up at your local bottle shop. The time frame between showing up on the label approval list and hitting the shelves could be anywhere from a day to a couple of months out.

The same can be said for breweries. The brewery approvals tend to be even further out. Every brewery sold in Texas has to go through the same process to get approved by the TABC. Once they do this, they can then get labels approved.

I only include craft beer labels that have been approved.

After each label, I have indicated what they have been approved to sell in. They are as follows:

K = Keg
B = Large format bottle
b = Small format bottle
c = Small format (12oz) can
C = Larger format cans

TABC Brewery Approvals:

Helm’s Brewing Company – San Diego

A couple things to take from these releases:

Circle Brewing – Devil’s Envy is the first of their Inner Circle series. It is Circle Envy aged in Whiskey barrels. You will be able to try it at their 4th Anniversary Party this Saturday. If you have not been out to their brewery, you can visit most weeks on Friday (5-8) and Saturday (1-4).

Bitter Sisters – If you have not been following the DFW beer scene lately, it is absolutely exploding. Bitter Sisters is another brewery that is opening over the course of this year.  This comes on the heels of Braindead Brewing opening last week, Nine Band in the weeks before, and Texas Ale Project not long before that.

Real Ale – This comment is not as much about their new labels, but more of a shout out at the great job they did on their new taproom.  If you have the time, it is worth driving out to Blanco to check it out. They are open Thursday through Saturday from 11 to 5pm. It is a great facility run by good people.  You also can get great views of their bottling line from their patio overlooking it.
