Update on Independence Brewing Co. Taproom Closure
Over the past several weeks, rumors have been circulating about the possible closure of Independence Brewing Co. Our team has reached out to owner Amy Cartwright for comment and will update here as we receive more concrete information.
In recent months, patrons noticed the brewery’s taproom hours gradually shrinking from several days a week down to just Thursdays. During that period, there have been multiple reports of staff members being laid off, and the taproom hours becoming inconsistent.
We can confirm that Independence beers are still available in stores and on tap, but have no further information about future plans for the brewery at this time.
Independence has been a mainstay of the Austin beer scene since 2004. They have won many awards and honors over the years. Owner Amy Cartwright was one of the driving forces behind the creation of the Texas Brewer’s Guild and the revival of the Texas Craft Brewer’s Festival.
